Racial gaslighting. Ever see any of this on ImgFlip?

I wonder why so many (white) Americans can't accept that racism still exists? Our nation was founded by slave owners. The biggest war on American soil was about slavery. You can ad "it was about state rights" to that list.

Right-wing media has been force feeding resentment and victim mentality to working class whites for decades, distracting them from their own exploitation by richer whites by pointing to blacks and immigrants, painting them as lazy, violent, criminal parasites. So while these white workers are breaking their backs to give their bosses higher profits, they blame their real struggles on those less fortunate than themselves. And as a result they refuse to accept that others suffer even more than they do, and fail to unite with those minorities with which they actually have more in common with than the plutocrats they identify with and dream of becoming.

Basically, white supremacy is a con to keep workers and the poor divided and conquered.

Actually, you're wrong. The northern union won't give a shit about ending slavery if slavery didn't cause the Confederate States Of America form.

actually the civil war WASNT about slavery. it was about the north wanting farming, and the south wanted industry. it was about GREED not slaves, abe lincoln just set THE SOUTHERN slaves free because he needed more soldiers and he figured the slaves would fight for him. believe me or don't. i don't care mate.

"Race card" is missing.

This is saying that the speechifying is never so simplistically motivated. Often downplaying human tragedy may be for different reasons.

Sometimes people find the situation too depressing. So they turn away to protect their egos. They say nothing. Not in and of itself a bad thing.

Some may benefit momentarily from tragedy. In that case almost any talk may be used that continues the situation. That keeps profits rolling in to these individuals.

Or in the case of the meme the tragedy is leveraged for other causes. So saying sonething that looks like it falls into the pretty simplistic list cannot be accounted for so easily.

It may look as if though speech like "you are just trying to start a race war" is mere gaslighting. But it may have a more nefarious purpose that selfishly protecting ones own values at the expense of others.

Not merely shutting people up but using the language of gaslighting aka speechifying to further a cause that itself is very rational. Who knows why individuals may want tragedies to evolve into conflict. They often do though.
