Unfortunately, long-term studies show that growing corn, converting it to ethanol, etc., requires as much energy input as they get from the ethanol.
So it's like saying we need 20 units of energy, so we'll start with 0, and use 20 units of energy to create 20 units of energy. Of course, that gives us a NET GAIN of 0 - 20 + 20 = 0
