It’s not working it’s a f**king travesty. Rolling blackouts every summer. They want to convert to electric vehicles and they can’t supply enough power now how the f**k are they going to power electric vehicles.

Ya and guess what happens when U.K. the power goes out.

public transportation is a better idea than investing in purely road transportation, though. talking of power outages, how many car crashes will occur from the traffic lights going out? at least public transportation will protect more lives.

Public transportation is fine for the downtown but areas like the greater Los Angeles area will never have efficient public transportation. It wasn’t laid out that way. and if you can’t keep the power on now how the f**k are you going to keep it on when everyone’s charging their cars?

"It wasn’t laid out that way"

because american cities were planned out by corrupt urban planners being told to build endless piles of cookie-cutter suburbs so building contractors can endlessly build cheap housing and sell it for hundreds of thousands. that's california for ya.

"and if you can’t keep the power on now how the f**k are you going to keep it on when everyone’s charging their cars?"

idk how to feel about electric cars, tbh. i encourage usage, but california investing so much in them is a bad idea, when electric trains can do so, so much more

So you are all about the stack ‘n’ pack Agenda 21 planning for the new society

idk what you mean by that. i'm just saying trains are better than cars. nothing to do with the friggin united nations, especially since i technically support private companies to rebuild the transportation industry

Concentrated apartment housing for the masses thats the only way public transportation makes sense.

"Whatever they were unsightly with electric wires running overhead and laying track to the suburbs would have been extremely costly.

since we're talking about unsightly now, let's not forget that freeways are ugly and take up a lot of space while accomplishing very little.

trams can actually function without overhead wires on the entire system when equipped with a battery that can be recharged when it does hit the overhead wires. That's how the Luxembourg City tram functions.

regarding laying track to the suburbs... i don't see that being very costly (for a privately-run enterprise that is, because our government spends money on stupid things). if a medium-capacity system was built to connect multiple suburbs, a mall or two, as well as the downtown area, that would ease the congestion. or, a commuter rail system could run on existing trackage that doesn't currently hold passenger service.

"LA is spread out not a concentrated population except in the downtown areas. There is a light rail system now the runs down the center of the freeway or down old rail lines."

urban sprawl is a bad idea in urban planning, and it only exists to stimulate the u.s. economy. because of how much sprawl there is in los angeles, however, a system as vast as tokyo's commuter rail system is what could easily work. i should also mention that i don't rate light rail highly because it uses low-capacity streetcar vehicles on right-of-way that could be used for a medium-capacity system.

" It is expanding but will never replace buses or cars"

light rail does have more capacity than buses, and is cheaper to operate because of fuel and driver costs. why pay for 3 buses on a line when a single light rail vehicle can carry more than 3 buses? as for cars, keep in mind that not every american can afford a car or obtain a driver's license. as a result, this forces them into america's bad transit system that's dying for improvements.

Ya you keep not getting that the existing rail doesn’t go everywhere. Not even close. It’s too late to redesign the cities you have to deal with what you have. We can’t keep the lights on now so you can’t add anything more that runs off electric until you figure out the power problems

"The question is how easy is it to get where you need to go . 3 or 4 bus transfers Is inconvenient to say the least, without adding the additional down time at each transfer stop."

buses are inefficient. they're necessary in quite a few cases, but they'll never top trams, which can go through a city with ease

Lots of cities had electric trams in the 40’s and 50’s including Los Angeles. They were unprofitable and taken out of service.

"They were unprofitable and taken out of service."

because of the anomaly that was the great depression combined with the general motors streetcar scandal that replaced streetcars with buses while lobbying the united states government to build the freeway. not to mention that the streetcars were operated by private industry while our roads & automobile manufacturers today require taxpayer subsidy

They were able to purchase the electric bus companies because they were distressed losing money. After World War 2 people moved out to the suburbs and ridership plummeted making them easy prey for Goodyear and GM to buy up.

is it though...? i mean, it's not hard to walk or bike to a bus/tram stop

You aren’t from LA

"You aren’t from LA"

you haven't been to the Netherlands. every form of transportation is easy to access in the Netherlands, whereas LA is built badly.

had those streetcar companies been able to expand to the suburbs, and hadn't our government intervened, most of those streetcar companies would still be around today.

doesn't mean we can't not build any new track

"It’s too late to redesign the cities you have to deal with what you have."

40,000 deaths a year from driving deal with it lol. imagine if back when the highway was proposed, but everyone knew the death statistics. people would protest it. also, american cities can still easily fit streetcars in, let alone underground trains. every major city had them back in the day. this is the united states: the biggest economic powerhouse in the world. if morocco can afford a train that goes 320 km/h, then we can rebuild streetcars in LA.

"We can’t keep the lights on now so you can’t add anything more that runs off electric until you figure out the power problems"

diesel & hydrogen trains still exist. i don't advocate them as streetcars or underground systems, but they still exist.

Ok good luck with your green new deal and getting the right of way and imminent domain lawsuits and everything else. Give it a try.

worked in europe and japan, texas central railway & brightline are pushing forward, anyone who opposes private enterprise is basically a cuck. especially since having rail transit is the bare minimum of a good transit network, not some gnd bullshit
