Kylie ear | THANK U FOR LISTENING | image tagged in kylie ear | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
First off, though I slapped a primative humanoid skull on Kylie’s head here, I don’t actually dislike ImgFlip or I wouldn’t use it as much as I do. I’ve dabbled with other meme creation sites and never really got into them. I keep coming back here because it is intuitive and familiar to me. I love the sense of community and grouping of related content that meme streams provide.

At this point, I’ve offered detailed criticism of ImgFlip culture and modding on several different streams which you may or may not have seen. For now I’ll just cut to the chase and get to the tl;dr version.

Basically, ImgFlip has a problem with a small minority of users being hateful and unconstructive toward others over prolonged periods. It’s not just one-off insults (which are par for the course especially when debating politics and can be chalked up to a bad day), but I’m talking about harassment that spans multiple memes and comment chains and indeed entire streams.

This is perhaps a user-base problem more than an ImgFlip problem per se. Many of us have made efforts to change hearts and minds and spread “Peace on ImgFlip” with (I hope) some success, but smart Modding too can help beneficially shape behavior.

So tl;dr I’d like to see more aggressive modding of borderline content, particularly when it becomes a pattern of creating a hostile memeing environment.

I haven’t checked the numbers lately, but last I saw traffic on ImgFlip was growing and growing (good for you). I don’t know how the current Mods’ workload is but if that’s the case it stands to reason ImgFlip might benefit from adding more Community Mods.

Perhaps flesh out the “Conduct” section of site TOS with some specific examples of content that could be subject to deletion or which might subject memers’ accounts to deletion. I understand it needs to be flexible because you can’t anticipate every possible violation, but looking back at things other memers have done to warrant bans could provide at least some examples.

I guess I went on longer than I meant to, but that’s as concise as I can be :)

I wish there was more consistency from the mods.

I've made some memes making fun of specific transgender people (e.g. Riley Dennis or the Gamestop Ma'am) and the mods were ok with them. I made another meme that basically had the same type of point, but wasn't mocking any specific person, and it was taken down as "transphobic".

More recently, there was an insufferable sjw user who was bitching at all my memes for about a month, calling me transphobic, racist, sexist, etc. This user was allowed to screenshot my comments, and post them in the LGBTQ stream in attempts to incite them to come and attack me.
When I did the same thing to show their ridiculous comments (they seriously claimed that humans can interbreed with gorillas) it was taken down as "harassment", even though they DELETED their account.

Someone told me that the LGBTQ stream is "private", but if what I did was apparently against Imgflip's terms, why wouldn't those terms be enforced on the LGBTQ stream?
