I posed this question in another meme recently, but it was yanked before anyone could
answer because the image had a watermark from another meme site in it:

When I click on a meme and hit the upvote button, It doesn't stay lit when I go back to
the stream I was scrolling. Does this mean the upvote goes away? ...or will it be cancelled
if I re-click the button from the stream? Either way the number of upvotes on the meme
doesn't change.
Not complaining, but I want to make sure my fellow hard working memers are getting
all the upvotes they deserve.

Back when I started on imgflip, I would notice that if I upvoted then came back to the image that the upvote would sometimes be gone but that bug appears to have been fixed.

Hit F5 or refresh the page when you go back to the stream, your upvote should be visible there.

If you upvoted on the image page and then went back to the stream and upvoted again to make it green there, there is no cancellation or duplication. If the upvote is green on the image page or in the stream and you click the button again, you will take away your upvote.

I'm pretty sure it does.
Whenever I comment on something and flip to another meme, if I go back my comment doesn't show up, but if I reload the meme then I can see it.
So it probably does upvote???

Yeah, that's what's happened to me

I always have to click in the image, upvote and after going back to the stream front, hit upvote again. I don't understand, but this is the only way it actually takes.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. It's weird.
I guess once you hit the button either way, the upvote is registered.
