Maybe that's the gag...but the Berlin Wall was built after the Nazis were defeated to separate West Germany controlled by the Allies and East Germany controlled by the Soviet Union.
And it got torn down because for some reason the GDR went bankrupt and couldn't keep their corrupt government and highly expensive wall going any longer - ho figure...
