There was no Confederacy at the time- the fort was fired on by militia. They attacked a federal building.

The south didn't do it to maintain slavery. They did it because the federal government overreached its power. If the feds had offered to buy the slaves into freedom, every land owner would have jumped at the opportunity.

Good Fellas Hilarious Meme | And the slaveholders would do what with the money? Pay their ex-slaves to work? | image tagged in memes, good fellas hilarious | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

Yep, for cheaper than it would take to feed and house them. Just like they did after the war. I disagree with their actions, but that's all it would have taken to avoid war.

I think the ex-owners would maybe take the $$, but given the worker the same deal - work for food & housing & clothing as landlord sees fit. Some would not work and leave, and I think those ex-owners would know their relationship was bad and be opposed to the buy out. Other workers would leave and take the chance at making a life for themselves. Those employers would also be unhappy. And no owner would know for certain how many ex-slaves would do that. For that reason I do not think the offer from the North would have been accepted. And I do not know if the North would want to put out that much money, prior to knowing the horrors of war. Even after the war dragged on and lives were lost or damaged, the North did nor offer this. Nor did the South offer it as an end to war when it was apparent in 1865 that they were losing.

The reason it wasn't offered during the war was because the war wasn't about slavery. It was about states rights. I think enough of them would have accepted to avoid the war.

The war ended AFTER the 13th Amendment prohibiting slavery was passed. So, the South knew that coming back did not mean back to the status who of slavery. So the South continued to have states’ rights, but no slavery right. And unless the South believed they could win, the slavery issue was lost. Once the amendment was passed, the South no longer was concerned about states’ rights.

Uh no. They were forced back in and their leaders removed. Please read up on history.

Leaders who held confederate offices were banned from office. New officers had to swear alliance to Union. States not forced, and in fact had to jump through hoops before allowed to rejoin and participate in Congress, etc.

Yes after being completely destroyed by the war.
