Police are basically worthless. 99% of what they do is sit in their cars by construction sites and write traffic tickets. A fraction of which will never even have need to fire their gun in the line of duty. The closest thing they do to actually saving lives is arresting drunk drivers.
Of course, if you brainwash yourself with reels of fear-mongering demagoguery, convincing yourself that civilization it teetering on the edge of ruin, that might be a different story.
