It was still violent, but it was a civilized violence.

Absolutely, very different than say the French Revolution which led to endless wars in Europe for decades.

Unique take from you today my man

Your historical revisionism and plucky willingness to contradict the dictionary know no bounds

The image you used in your OP meme is a famous oil painting depicting General Washington accepting the surrender of British troops at Yorktown, a pivotal moment in the Revolutionary War.

In relation to your claim that those who claim the American Revolution was a “violent overthrowing of the existing government” are “ignorant of history,” this brings up some interesting questions to consider:

—What do generals such as Washington do for a living: generally speaking? Specifically: Do they make strategic decisions in a context of war? Lead troops into battle?
—Does the phrase “American Revolutionary War” imply either a revolution or a war? (Also acceptable: War of American Independence)
—Did Americans fight and die in this alleged war? If so, what motivated them to pick up arms, if anything? Something in their coffee?
—The battle of Yorktown precipitated peace negotiations among the belligerents. In the end, what did the British government agree to relinquish? To recognize?

Before you accuse me of Sealioning: To be clear, I’m not demanding you answer these questions. They’re just food for thought.

Your reliance on the dictionary to explain complex political systems is deficient. The difference between the American and French Revolution are distinct and the American Revolution led to stability and prosperity. The current conditions and dogma would lead to a disastrous French style revolution that brought neither peace nor equality and ended with Napoleon.

I’m not here to defend the French Revolution or any other Revolution in particular other than the American one.

I cite the dictionary only because it’s a brief and easy way to point out where how at odds with reality Timber’s nonsense is.

Each revolution has its nuances and a generic dictionary definition of a word is a flawed description. Comparing what is happening now to the American Revolution is incorrect, but we know you don’t care.

Indeed, the colonists made attempts to reason peacefully with the British government of King George III, seeking the reversal of certain punitive measures and more local decisionmaking

George III dismissed those peaceful entreaties and sent in the jackboots to occupy Boston

What happens when Americans are subjected to such tyrannical treatment?

I feel like there’s a new hit musical about this
