Personally, I don't think people should be vegan or whatever if not for health reasons. I get they want to save the animals, but just cuz they don't eat them, doesn't mean they stay alive. But thats just how I feel. If they want to, they can, but I don't particularly would tell someone too... Id never give that stuff up if I didnt have to...

i suppose, yeah

Have you ever heard of supply & demand? If we give the meat industry less money, lesser animals will continue to be killed.

And yet animals are here for us to eat... Whatever.

That's like saying "negros are here for us to enslave". It makes no sense that so much processing must be done for an animal to be deemed as "safe" and "tasty" enough to eat. When the animal ag industry gets defunded decades from now, just remember that I was one of the first heroes to contribute to the mass-liberation of nonhuman animals.

I wasn't looking to argue. I was just stating my opinion.
Thanks for your opinion.

I didn't know that. But there's no point in sharing your opinion without debating.

How about this: food is here for us to eat, and meat is food, so if you want to eat meat, go eat meat. And please don’t tell me that I don’t care about the animal. Would a shark decide not to eat me because it randomly cares about my life.
1 up, 4y,

That's a false analogy fallacy, and you know it. There is so much proof that humans are herbivores. If animals are food, why won't you hunt without guns them in the same way that sharks do?

“ Food is here for us to eat” is perfectly true. To answer your second question, I don’t want to hunt. I’m lucky enough for others to do it for me.

Nonhuman animal carcasses are no more of food than human flesh is. If you hate hunting so much, then you have no business eating what you can't kill yourself.

Are you saying I don’t deserve to eat? Every human on earth deserves food just as much as either of us do. I’m saying this once: Please stop. I will try a vegetarian diet if that’s what you want. I’m trying to be nice, but you broke my barrier. Please stop!
0 ups, 4y
I never implied that you don't deserve to eat. I was saying that animal flesh is not food, and that if you really are meant to eat it, you should be able to kill animals without using guns & cooking their flesh. Thanks for at least trying to make an effort to change, though.

I'm not vegan, but I respect anyone that wants to eat that way. I don't appreciate the visceral attacks that come from militant vegans sometimes. I also have similar disdain for those who would flaunt their meat eating ways out of disrespect for a vegan with strong beliefs. Best practice for both sides, respect each other's opinions.

I’m a vegan but not in the conventional or strictest sense of the word , and it’s for health reasons ( I’m diabetic and in my forties )
I don’t eat meat, fish & dairy products.
That being said if I choose a pre prepared type of food and see there is something like milk listed at the bottom of the ingredients (probably as a very small amount used as a binding agent) I’d choose to eat it anyway.
I’m not a lover of domesticated animals, whether That is either peoples pets or livestock I just don’t have time for them.
However wild animals in their natural environments have time for immensely.
I believe nobody should be able to tell anyone what they should eat ( 2 of my 3 kids & my wife eat meat etc, the third kid is just a really fussy eater LOL ) just try to eat as healthy as you can & consider the best physical thing you will ever own is your body so use it in every way you see fit but look after it too, it has to last you a lifetime 😉.

Peace.

They can choose not to eat something if they want. I don't EVER wanna do that cause I like meat and other animal products but it's their choice.

Ok, I’ll try. And on the other comment with the court reference, I wouldn’t sell my dog just because someone eats dogs. Personally I think it’s wrong to eat dogs, since I’ve had many dogs over my lifetime, but if eating dogs is normal for you, then I can ask you to not eat them, but in the end, it’s really your choice. BTW, I would go against my friend in court if they did something unjustifiable.

The Chinese should know that eating dogs is wrong just because of how obvious it is that they're suffering.

Eat and let eat.. 🤷 But I think we could all try to eat a bit less meat. Not even to save the animals as we're literally breeding them for food, but the whole industry contributes quite a bit to our climate. And that is getting increasingly harder to reverse. But why am I even trying? We've known this for over 40 years now and all we did is increase production and destroy the earth even faster...
2 ups, 4y,

Eating only a little bit of flesh instead of going vegan is a middle ground fallacy. Why reduce your harm only slightly when you can eliminate it fully?
0 ups, 4y,
1 reply
Well, if we all ate only half of the meat we do now the ecological impact of the meat industry would decrease roughly by half. I'm not saying we couldn't do more, I'm just saying we should at least do something.

I would also suggest there should be absolutely no cars, trains, planes or ships powered by any means of stored energy. But I'm not saying unless we get rid of all of them at once we shouldn't even start.

If motor vehicles are electrically powered by solar panels, then there's nothing wrong with using them.
1 up, 4y,
1 reply
Yes, there is. It's better than fossil fuels but solar panels and batteries are still made with non-renewable resources we're rapidly running out of extracted by means exploiting the environment and the people working there. Unless we find a much better way of producing these components soon we're going to run out of these key materials before even 5% of cars worldwide are replaced with electric ones. And currently we're wasting even more of the batteries because e-scooters are usually built in such a way that's it's near impossible to recycle the batteries so nobody bothers and they get thrown out after less than three months of use. It is simply not feasible for everyone to have an electric car, even a solar powered one. We can either accept that and change our behavior or simply assume that we are going to keep our Western lifestyle and use up more resources than we have and see how long it'll take us to catch up to earth's capacity - and that's assuming the rest of the world will happily sit by with nothing and watch us waste our planet.
2 ups, 4y,
1 reply
Like what kinds of non-renewable resources? It's not like those resources can be destroyed, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a way to recycle discarded E-scooters.
0 ups, 4y,
1 reply
Lithium, Nickel, Cobalt (probably the most critical of them all at the moment). Like I said, they are reusable but usually it just isn't done because it is still cheaper to just throw the batteries out and just get new materials, but if we continue at this rate we will have a big problem very soon. And even if we do recycle all the materials possible we don't have enough to continue our current standards for everyone. And certainly not at the current costs.

This might sound ironic, but if it wasn't for all of the land that's wasted by animal ag, there'd be far more room for mining. Animal ag subsidies might even be the reason why the gold rush ended and the great depression started.
0 ups, 4y,

This might sound ironic, but raw materials are not spread evenly around the world. If there were things to mine under the agricultural land being used there would be a mine there already. Whole cities have been relocated for coal. If there was something like Cobalt to be mined in a place I don't think a bunch of cows in a field would stop them. And the gold rush ended because there were just too many people trying to find gold and not enough gold to be found and it got more expensive to keep looking than could be made with the findings. The people who had come for the gold were now left empty handed and needed something else to earn their living so they turned to one of the few things you can do almost anywhere with a bit of technology: agriculture.
1 up, 4y
But it must be remembered that animal agriculture is heavily subsidized, so even if cobalt mining is profitable, you can't buy land that has already been bought by the government.

The title of the meme, and it's tasty
1 up, 4y
Then try to kill a squirrel without using guns and eat its body raw. Even gazelles have sharper canines than humans have. Animal body parts only taste good to you because they're always seasoned. That's why vegan meats can replicate the taste of flesh so easily. Would you eat the flesh of aborted human fetuses if they had the potential to taste good? https://www.adaptt.org/veganism/humans-are-herbivores.html
