Of all the political issues I can think of occurring in the world today, sticking up for the rights of Karens barely even registers.

Ridiculing middle or upper-middle class entitled white women for the way they act to trample other people's dignity and, especially, put other people's actual lives at risk (anti-vaxxers, those who still refuse to wear face-masks) is punching up. Which is fair game all day.

Personal anecdote: My best friend's mom is named Karen but she's not a Karen. I'd have to ask her specifically but since she is good-humored and not entitled and has a positive outlook on life I highly doubt she takes the politicized insult personally.

Please look at the way it is being used and the spirit of those using it. Simply because I am a white woman, I am dismissed outright as a Karen every time I have a complaint or unpopular opinion online. It has nothing to do with looks, income, our marital status (I am an unmarried pauper who doesn't look anything like the purported picture), though I am assumed to be entitled and thus my thoughts are prejudged as unworthy of consideration. Look at the other comments on here for example. Look at the spirit and intend behind it's usage, which serves to discredit, shame, and shut-up a whole segment of people.

This is a dangerous and hurtful paradigm, and functions similar to racial and ethnic slurs of the past.

And actually you prove my point when you yourself dismiss anti-vaxxers and mask-refusers outright. Dismissing dissenting voices is incredibly arrogant, is dangerous for any society, and contributes to divisiveness by promoting the echo-chamber. It is easy for the masses to bulldoze minority concerns and needs, but is that really the society you want?

Anti vaxxers are societal pariahs, and rightfully so because they’re objectively wrong and dangerous.

Why? Because you are too arrogant to even hear their reasons why? You know there is a reason the Catholics consider pride the deadliest sin.

Why do you feel so threatened that you feel the need to silence their voices? If you think them wrong, why not let their arguments rise or fall on their own merits instead of weakly countering with a blanket insult? That is a dangerous and foolish position, and just makes your position look weak.

Not all arguments deserve equal merit. Someone who is adamant that 2+2=5 does not deserve consideration. Likewise, most people on all sides of the ideological spectrum will know that the opinions of antivaxxers are antithetical to objective, scientific fact and thus should be dismissed. Of course, you can try to change their mind and provide evidence, but many antivaxxers stand firm in their nonsensical beliefs regardless of contrary evidence provided. The only other option left is to summarily dismiss them.
