And to think, the couple are supporters of BLM. I don't blame them, though; if a bunch of yahoos force their way on my property and threaten myself, my husband, and our pets...they won't be leaving happy campers, to put it mildly.

Yeah, he's a lawyer, probably left leaning but they still have the right to defend themselves from animals. I imagine it'll be another forced meme like the karen meme or 'how dare you defend yourself', in other words.

No norsegreen is correct they are BLM supporters and do pro bono representation for defendants.

Jesus man, this is some characteristically bloodthirsty "humor"

Anywho: here's my totally unhumorous reacc meme. Information that won't make you laugh but which might save someone's life and stop you from going away for a long time

Roll safe and think about it

You may roll safer by checking out statute definitions regarding self-defense in individual States. Wikipedia is the poor man's legal consultant.

There are the laws on the books, and then there are... well...

The “way things are done”

Prosecutorial decisions, plea bargaining, etc. take place in the backdrop of what a hypothetical jury “might do”

This varies a lot from venue to venue

And I have no idea where you live, but if you live in a venue where BLM protestors are marching actively, then needless to say the prevailing mood is not exactly

Ahem

Very agreeable with the concept of white folks shooting black folks

Regardless of the exact circumstances of the shooting, this will make your lawyer’s job

Ahem

More difficult

Just things to think about before squeezing the trigger on the next melanated stranger to put a foot on your property

You sound pretty well-protected.

As for wifey and I, we are protected by security cameras, a dog that barks at the drop of a hat, our cell phones which are always on us, and regular neighborhood police patrols that are never more than 2 minutes tops away.

I can't think of any scenario in which a home intruder could get to us before the cops got to them.

We have no need for swords or anything else.

Except for Hollywood, I can’t imagine patrols always 2 minutes away.

You're still on about this?
Using lethal force against someone who is committing a felony against me and my property will keep me from "going away for a long time."
Stop trying to shame people who are standing up for themselves. You're being a bully.

This is the most bizarre mixture of aggression and crybaby behavior that I ever did see

Other than, you know, Trump himself

Nope, the test isn’t “felony.” It’s unlawful and immediate violence.

Someone could literally be walking away with your precious plasma screen and that does not give you the right to smoke them

So, you believe you should always run away from your property, even home, and let the kind souls who enter, do as they please?

“Castle doctrine” is for...

Well, it’s for those who can meet all the elements of castle doctrine.

Would a burglary qualify?

Well

It depends!

That will be $500

J/k, we’re not in an attorney-client relationship. By mutual agreement :)

It means you don’t have to stand down, run away. And when you shoot them dead, there is only 1 side to this story as to why you needed such force, and the cops can’t make you give a statement due to 4th Amend. rights.

Okay, thanks.

Just curious. Do you think they did anything wrong?

Assuming you are talking about the folks in the background (melanated, presumptively criminal) vs. the folks in the foreground (unmelanated, righteous gun-wielders)

Yes: They are in fact doing something wrong.

Something worth losing their lives over? No

But you have teed up an excellent transition to my next point

Indeed: If you were to light up the ass of a melanated intruder ungraciously treading upon your property, and assuming you are white (and from my history of interacting with you, I can't imagine you are anything but white), any prosecutor in this day-and-age worth their salt is going to be evaluating that homicide as a possible hate crime and therefore filing motions to compel the discovery of any and all information that could tend to prove hateful intent

If your lawyer is worth their salt (and assuming you have been candid, honest, and forthright with your counsel about your online activities), then they'll be filing motions on your behalf to suppress the discovery of such information

Who would win?

Who knows! It's up to the judge

And if your lawyer were to lose the motion?

What would the prosecutor find whilst perusing the ImgFlip account of SydneyB?

Interesting stuff man

Interesting stuff

Starting

Well

Starting right here

Who said anything about skin color? Oh right! You're a feral leftist who views everything through race and identity politics and seemingly thinks all the rioters who threatened those two were black.

I'm glad you say you're against racism, perhaps you'll take a hard look at yourself.

And no, those two did nothing wrong in defending themselves from rioters hurling threats at them.

This was my fault for asking a simple question and expecting a simple answer. Sorry my meme threw you for a loop and distracted you.

haaaaaaaaaaah

You may not have *said* something about skin color, but images speak louder than words -- as anyone who knows anything about memes could tell you.

(And much as I find your content personally disagreeable, I do consider you someone who knows something about memes, so I know you know this!)

Anywho, sounds like race does have something to do with this after all. But tbh, I don't even know what specific incident you are referencing. As such, I have no opinion on it. If you'd like to send a citation my way, you can.

But it has not escaped my attention that many right-wing memes these days are threatening violence against BLM protestors (whether characterized as "rioters" or not), since there is nothing better for Righties to talk about these days apparently -- certainly not Covid-19 and their increasingly unsustainable opposition to face-masks! -- until the shiny Ghislane object fell out of the sky today.

So, I took your meme at face value and responded accordingly.
4 ups, 4y
See, that was my fault in providing a distraction and assuming you'd realize I wasn't actually referring to the meme I included. But then again, you pontificated quite a bit over something you weren't familar with.

But at least you have a passing familiarity with it now and know I was referring to the actual situation.
2 ups, 4y
Okay so I ran across the story in my FB feed... no need for a citation

Ummmm

Long story short: What this couple did to confront these protestors was not okay. In the slightest. I will not bother explaining why as I know we will disagree on that. So, I would now like to focus my attention on the lawyer they hired to represent them

Ummmm

Eh. See, here's the thing. Buddy is a lawyer, plead his case as taking 'progressive' cases, take that for what it's worth. He's quite likely a CNN watching dem.

That really cracked you up that much? You must die watching Colbert. It's a shame you never saw true late night in the 80's, altho alot's there on youtube. It was different back then as options were very limited.

I used to find Colbert funny on the Colbert Report, couldn't get over how he watered himself down on the Late Show.

Trevor Noah has his moments but it's hit-or-miss.

John Oliver is much more my tastes as you could probably guess.

But I stopped watching even him a couple years ago honestly and I don't watch any comedy or frankly anything these days.
2 ups, 4y
I wasn't a big fan, but I got some chuckles from Colbert back in the day. It was a good schtick and he had some good targets in those Dubya days. But when it went from laughter to applause after a sanctimonious lecture, it jumped the shark.

They are all the same. Fallon tries but that giggly shit. I watched an episode about 2 weeks ago. I swear he was drunk. Filming from home. Pretty depressing.

There's really not much worth watching anymore, especially in that regard.
