You raise an interesting point and an audit was done to realize that checks were sent to dead people via SSI #s some of which seem to have filed taxs after their deaths...now here is how I see it,For the supposed most part this problem should be a no harm no foul as the checks have a 180 day life span if not returned.What should be instantly looked into is the ones that got cashed as those are the checks sent to people who have achieved false identities/proper identification under dead people's SSI numbers.
