Ethel Ernestine Harper, the woman pictured on Aunt Jemima syrup was a paid spokesperson for Aunt Jemima radio and TV commercials up until 1958. During the 1960's, Ethel Harper was a celebrated teacher of Black history in Morristown and Madison, WI. Her own family pleaded with Quaker Oats not to remove her image.
