Oh rigghhht!!! Of course! All Trump's fault isn't it? Now let's see, who's one of the only people in power with the spine enough to stand up to the rioting? Oh that's right, Trump. Sometimes the stupidity of people amazes me.

Trump in August 2019 suggested Chinese President Xi Jinping should meet personally with anti-government protesters in Hong Kong. “There would be a happy and enlightened ending,” Trump predicted in one post. “I have no doubt.”

I don't see your point

Bunker Boi told the chinese to meet with their protestors- dopey hasnt done that.
he lies to his party and no one calls him out- when asked about his tweets or news conferences they all say, i didnt see it. Chumps 4 Trump

Oh yes, cause these rioters are definitely interested in meeting

just like the Chinese protestors were? Why would it be good for them and not for us, or was it just another bad idea from Agolf Twitler?

Hong Kong and China and their protests and associated policies are very different from what's going on here in the US thank you.

interestiing, care to explain or just your Hunch? So his tweet policy, once again, doesnt apply to him?
How about this one?
Our country is totally fractured and, with our weak leadership in Washington, you can expect Ferguson type riots and looting in other places" - Donald Trump Nov 25, 2014.

Out of the two countries, which one has a totalitarian communist dictatorship?
What about it?

Bunker Boi wanted to meet with Al-Qaeda and North Korea. he is truly afraid of the US people. The baby gates out front, the running to the bunker.. He cant even hold a bottle of water... dementia? Parkinson's?
What about this:
Trump was suddenly taken by car to Walter Reed in November w/o notifying either hospital personnel or the local police who would normally restrict traffic to clear a path for a presidential motorcade to travel safely," Stroke?

I'm confused, now you think he has dementia or parkinson's? Gimme a break. And even if he did he's still far more coherent than Joe Biden could ever dream of being and that's not an overstatement.

Perhaps possessing “the spine to stand up to rioting” is not the best method of riot prevention, after all

MLK had some thoughts on this

MLK was against riots and he was man enough to publicly condemn.
How about you try and actually listen to what he thought about riots?

He was also man enough to call out white complacency (including white liberal complacency), and offer solutions for riot prevention, rather than playing the blame game

If your only takeaway from this passage is “MLK condemned riots,” you’re not reading it properly

Alright then, I'll bite, what are the rioters trying to say? It can't really be that black lives matter considering how many black people have been robbed, hurt, and even killed by the rioters/looters. And let's not forget all the statues of abolitionists and black soldiers they've vandalized and destroyed. So please, what are they trying to say?

MLK already answered many of these questions for you. See: deteriorating social conditions, etc.

People are also generally mad and frustrated this year about Covid lockdowns and layoffs and I think that has contributed as well.

As for the abolitionist statues, I don’t know every incident you’re referencing. In Madison, WI, the latest incident appears to have been touched off by the arrest of a black man. Here’s an article on it:

Certainly, tearing down a statue of an abolitionist seems counterproductive. It may surprise you to learn that vandals don’t always read their history books before going out to make their statement.

We still have to do something to try to quell the anger. What should we do?

As far as what we should do in response to riots: There are pretty much two approaches neatly summarized by these quotes

Which spirit will prevail in November? We’ll see!

Lol, prevention isn't a response, it's something you do before the event that requires a response.
Yeah, I love the military and unfortunately it looks like we're gonna have to use it.
And uh, I'd say we've made a whoooolllle lot of progress from when he said that. What social injustices are they angry about?

So you have chosen... death

Alright man: we'll see what the people think in November
0 ups, 4y
Oh yes, cause it's so safe to have rioters running around destroying things and hurting people. Good priorities.
0 ups, 4y
HA, you think I'm surprised that they "don't always read their history books"? They're absolute morons. The discussion about whether these injustices are real or not aside, under no circumstances would that excuse them breaking in to other people's stores, looting them, and in some cases harming the people. And the people that they are hurting are the same people that they claim to be fighting for! No, what I think they're trying to say is "I want to loot places for things and for money and I don't care who I hurt. And I want to tear down the statues of people who I don't even know anything about just to prove what a massive IDIOT I am."

And are you suggesting we just let the rioters be while they tear down America?

I support constructive efforts in the vein of "social justice and progress" as identified by MLK. That means the police and criminal justice reform efforts that have taken place nationwide and have accelerated since George Floyd's death. I think even more should be done on economic, education, and investment fronts.

In the short-term: Crowd control is a complex topic. The use of force should be proportional and calculated not to exacerbate a situation and cause needless deaths to civilians.

Trump as commander-in-chief and under the Insurrection Act has the right to send in troops without approval from local officials, but he hasn't. I think even he recognizes what a terrible mistake this would be.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52893540

As we know from Bolton's new memoir: Every decision in his mind is driven by re-election calculations, after all.

Turns out mayors & governors have universally opposed Trump's offers to send in the troops. We haven't had Tiananmen Square-style massacres in cities across America, and thank goodness for that.

Ah yes, constructive. Poor word choice I would say cause there ain't nothing constructive about what's going on right now.

There is much constructive going on: police changing their hold policies, some reform proposals being adopted, others being blocked by politicians standing in the way.

Guess who is doing the blocking?
