If you say "All Lives Matter" you're downplaying the emphasis on black lives which are the ones being threatened
3 ups, 5y
I keep saying that and getting argued with, either they are too stupid to understand or they are not interested in anyone pointing it out.
Probably because it gets in the way of them having a tantrum over people suggesting that they aren't special.

And by getting pissy over someone saying all lives matter, you're making it sound as if only black lives matter, or that they matter more than any other life.... Which they don't.
4 ups, 5y
People get pissy because saying ALM means you fundamentally missed the meaning of BLM. Call it Black Lives Matter Too if you will.

And by getting pissy over someone saying Black Lives Matter, you're making it sound as if you don't understand that black people's lives are disproportionately at risk.

By getting pissy over someone saying Black Lives Matter, you're making it sound as if you can't bear to be left out of anything even if it's your life being at an increased risk.

It's a call for solidarity and equality not a party; there is no free cake.

"And by getting pissy over someone saying Black Lives Matter, you're making it sound as if you don't understand that black people's lives are disproportionately at risk."

But they aren't and that's my issue with making a big deal out of this. And statistics back up my claim.

"By getting pissy over someone saying Black Lives Matter, you're making it sound as if you can't bear to be left out of anything even if it's your life being at an increased risk."

But that's not true, so I'll just leave that here. I could easily say the same for those who support BLM.

Statistics say that poc are 2.5 times more likely to be shot by police, they are also more likely to end up in the prison system.

"Statistics say that poc are 2.5 times more likely to be shot by police,"

I guess, if you're looking at a CNN poll or something similar.

"they are also more likely to end up in the prison system."

Do you stop to think that maybe that's true because they actually commit more crimes than other races? Oh, but that would be racist, right? I mean, let's not let facts get in the way of our feelings.

"Do you stop to think that maybe that's true because they actually commit more crimes than other races? Oh, but that would be racist, right? I mean, let's not let facts get in the way of our feelings."

Y'know, I expected you to say that and I was going to write a pre-emptive response, but then I decided to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Well, Timber said recently that making generalizations about a group of people based on their skin color is racist, so by conservative standards you are.

By saying things like 'maybe that's true because', you are talking about what you feel not what is fact. You are being intentionally simplistic about a complex problem to suit your racist narrative.
If all lives matter, why aren't you demonstrating concern for black lives? Why aren't you demonstrating concern for the lives of immigrants and liberals?

The intention of All Lives Matter is not a call to fight for all lives, it's a call to drown out support for black lives.

"Well, Timber said recently that making generalizations about a group of people based on their skin color is racist, so by conservative standards you are."

No, generalizing isn't racist when you're stating a fact. It's the same as saying all fat people are at a high risk of diabetes and heart disease. It may be harsh to some sensitive ears, but the facts don't lie. I'm not calling black people criminals. The majority are good people, but for some reason their race here in the States seem to commit more crimes than other races. Instead of calling those who point that fact out, racist, maybe we should get to the bottom of the problem and try fixing it.

"By saying things like 'maybe that's true because', you are talking about what you feel not what is fact. You are being intentionally simplistic about a complex problem to suit your racist narrative."

Again with the racism accusations. I never feel like I should defend myself against racism accusations because I know I'm not racist. Facts are facts and the facts show that for some reason there is a higher percentage of black people that commit crimes. I believe it's due to their location and who they choose to run with, but it could be other things as well. One thing I know it isn't due to and that's the color of their skin. Skin color doesn't make you steal a pack of cigs from the local convenience store.

"If all lives matter, why aren't you demonstrating concern for black lives? Why aren't you demonstrating concern for the lives of immigrants and liberals?

I don't have a problem with most liberals. It's progressives I despise. And as for black people, I have shown my concerns for them on this site and other sites many times and I continue to be called a racist for showing my concern. I have continuously called out BLM for not caring about the inner city violence. That's the biggest issue amongst the black community; their extreme violence toward each other. It's disturbing. As for immigrants, I have no problems with immigrants. I'm not sure where you get the idea I don't give a shit about them.

"The intention of All Lives Matter is not a call to fight for all lives, it's a call to drown out support for black lives."

You couldn't be more wrong.

...I'm sorry. I was.. having a moment.

But now, I just want to tell you this

Saying "All Lives Matter" after somebody says "Black Lives Matter" is just like this one anecdote:

"Help! My child is choking!"

"Hey, other people can choke too you know!"

What matters is who's in danger RIGHT NOW, not who CAN BE in danger

Well the good news is, I'm not sick of hearing about it. However, I'm not too keen on the idea of people saying specifically BLACK lives matter, considering I believe that ALL lives matter!

You and I both know that if anyone were going around with signs saying White lives matter, they would seriously be attacked by the trouble-making media and black people alike!

And as long as you show Cops respect that they believe they deserve, you're gonna be fine, no matter what color you are.

Hey Beckett. The comment you're remarking on has been deleted. I'm not going to disagree that people of all backgrounds get brutalized by police but I think it's been pretty obvious that there's such a thing as being pulled over for DWB - Driving While Black/Brown.

On a podcast I heard Owen JJ Stone talk about that he gets pulled over 7 or 8 times a year going to and from home in his affluent neighborhood. I was shocked by that. I'd like to find the clip. But man I could only imagine if that were the crap I had to put up with just for the color of my skin.

Atop that his young daughter was in the car with him for many of those. How many times was she subjected to an armed authority approaching the car? Each time an innocent slip up possibly turning tragic.

I know people say respect authority and respect the police. Respect is earned. Respect can be tarnished too. If the police were harassing me all the time I sure a hell wouldn't trust them. Why should anybody being habitually targeted trust them?
3 ups, 5y
Yes, I agree with you. I've already read about four cases this week where a white person called the police on black people just because of their color. The white people couldn't understand why the black people were where they were, so they called the police. One time it was a rooftop, and it turns out the black people lived in the building. Another time it was a workout room, and so on. Basically, there's a lot of stereotyping going on. Rather pathetic on the part of the white people, if you ask me. 😠

Dude, sorry to be a royal pain, but can you please upvote my comments as we go along? I'm doing the same out of respect for you.

As for your reply, I couldn't agree more! I saw something online about a black comedian, Wayne Brady, who told someone in an interview that he feared for his daughter's life just because she accidentally set off an alarm somewhere. And I don't blame him! Anytime the cops show up where there's a black person, unfortunately there's a chance that someone's gonna get shot! I agree with you, nobody should have to fear people who are supposed to help and serve us

Oh, yes of course! Im sorry, I forget sometimes, but thank you for reminding me.

Yes, black people do have a really hard time, which is why I want to support them, but I think we're going to need more time for the racism to kind of breed out of out society, becuase racist people have the chance to raise racist kids, and I find it really sad. I think we need more time to just let the stigma remove itself.

Well said. 👍

By the way, I was talking to GrilledCheez when I said that about upvotes. LOL

I think one of the solutions to racism is interracial relationships. And we're seeing more of it each decade, which is why there are so many minorities now. And that's a great thing!

Eventually there will be so many mulatto folks living around the country, racism will all but die off!
