Don't forget the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP, commonly referred to as the Nazi party), which early on depended on a socialist message to gain popular support. The word 'Socialist' didn't just drop into their name by accident, as many seem to believe. Ernst Röhm, leader of the SA, was a devoted socialist. By mid-1934, the socialist facade was no longer necessary, and Röhm was becoming a potential liability, and maybe even a potential rival to Hitler. So he was murdered on the 'Night of The Long Knives.'
