From this 2005 study of chloroquine on the SARS virus:
Conclusion

Chloroquine, a relatively safe, effective and cheap drug used for treating many human diseases including malaria, amoebiosis and human immunodeficiency virus is effective in inhibiting the infection and spread of SARS CoV in cell culture. The fact that the drug has significant inhibitory antiviral effect when the susceptible cells were treated either prior to or after infection suggests a possible prophylactic and therapeutic use.

The study you cite is 15 years old and concludes that chloroquine "suggests a possible prophylactic and therapeutic use."

"Suggests..."

"Possible..."

Pretty thin gruel.

Although many large scale studies are under way, there is NO convincing EVIDENCE that hydroxychloroquine is prophylactic or curative.

And there are proven perils to using the drug.

Here is the summary of a study released three weeks ago: https://www.statnews.com/2020/05/22/what-a-big-new-study-on-malaria-drugs-as-covid-19-treatments-tells-us-and-what-it-doesnt/

It is also notable that Trump himself stopped taking the drug in late May, although he remains a believer due to all the totally non-scientific "rave reviews."

Healthcare by "rave review."

I don't think so.

The underlying science is sound. Many doctors have had clinical success using chloroquine. Some of these recent studies have been flawed.

It should not be so lightly dismissed is all,
nor politicized because of Trump.

Please provide a link that describes why these recent studies have been flawed?

And why has Trump stopped taking the drug?

There are no medications -- only vaccinations -- that provide lasting prophylaxis.

This lack of lasting prophylaxix is even true of chloroquine when it's used to prevent malaria.

You MUST keep taking the drug as long as you want to benefit from its prophylactic effect.

Ask Trump

Yes, it would provide prophylactic benefit only while taking. Just like minoxidil-Lol
