Why? Did he have an accent or something?

Naw, he majored in English in Egypt. It was just awkward because the term literally just means someone from Africa that becomes an American, which he did, but we use it for 'black' which he is not.

Technically yes.

But what I have been praying for is for some one to say, "No. It makes him an American."

I failed.

And this isn't just a stupid meme. I actually know someone from S.Africa, white, who is now a US citizen, who jokes that he is African-American.

I was a little pissed at first, but I can see the humor in it, too. But in my book if you come here, legally, and become a citizen, or are born here, you're an American.

I tell people that I am an American of Swedish-Italian descent. That is acceptable, don't you think?
