I think the cops should be defunded in that they don't get to buy military equipment.

Or civilian versions of military equipment like tanks and so on.

A better slogan than “defund the police” that still captures its aims. | NO TANKS FOR COPS | image tagged in memes,x x everywhere, tanks, police, tanks away, police brutality | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
This is the slogan I would roll with to convey that idea.

It wouldn’t come across to conservatives as advocating anarchy.

And we’re talking about more than just “tanks” but that captures the gist of it.

I agree with you on Militarization of Police.
I read it began with “surplus” equipment from Iraq war and reclassified as Anti Terrorist equipment to justify Law Enforcement usage.

Even small Police outfit were gifted weapons such as full auto AR-15’s from surplus Iraq war.

Makes sense. I hadn’t heard many details of the “defund the police” movement. Just seemed like bait for the right-wing.

I agree with that. A lot of money is sunk into that military equipment that they then feel the need to “use or lose.”

I do think officers should be paid more to attract better candidates... same as I’d say for teachers.

The other things we need are training, discipline, and firing bad apples. Same basic principles that would apply to any organization in need of reform.

Policing is hard work. How about funding mandatory weekly therapy for all cops?
