What rights are violated?

By designating antifa as a terrorist organization, this allows trump to prosecute people simply for being in an idealogical group, which flagrantly violates freedom of speech and expression, and opens a Pandora’s box of censoring unpopular ideologies. Also, i think terrorists don’t have as much rights like habeas corpus. Whether or not you disagree with antifa is irrelevant to the wider constitutional issue at stake.

Labeling ANTIFA merely "an ideological group" is a gross minimization of the actions of the group. Beating people in public, destruction of property, lawlessness.

There is no right protected by freedom of speech and expression that covers those activities. If ANTIFA was just a group of people spreading a message, I would agree with you, but that is not what they are doing.

Of course the constitution does not protect violent speech, but that’s not the point. By designating antifa as a terrorist group, Trump can prosecute someone who only joined the group, but didn’t commit any violent crimes. Hate speech is explicitly condoned in the constitution and for good reason and designating antifa as a terrorist group would undermine free speech. By your logic, white nationalists who are many times more dangerous than antifa would be a terrorist group, but they aren’t. That’s because simply joining a hateful group doesn’t make you a terrorist. This also indicates that trump’s move is not a principled stance against terrorism, but a political one against specifically left wing hate groups while brushing aside right wing ones.

I wasn’t really gone, I was playing madden. Anyways, I think the doj named white nationalist as a threat, but not an official terrorist organization. The government has no legal authority to name domestic terrorist organizations. Even Michael mcgarrity, head of the fbi counterterrorism division states that the us has no legal authority in designating domestic terrorist organizations.

The official stance or term has yet to be assigned, and Mcgarrity is correct in his claim. With that in mind we could probably expect ANTIFA will receive the same designation.

I know what you will say next, "but Trump said domestic terrorist organization". And that's standard Trump using words in the wrong place.

As long as people aren’t criminalized for solely holding unpopular beliefs, I’m fine with the designation as a threat, but I am seeing an alarmingly high amount of people also supporting the “terrorism organization” label.

This isn't the first group to receive the designation. The DOJ previously applied it to white supremacy groups. There were no constitutional challenges.
