I don't consider disrespecting our flag and anthem to be a protest. Sorry.

You did not win the challenge

But as a consolation prize: Feel free to designate the time, manner, and place of a suitable peaceful protest of police brutality that would cause you to listen

Derek Chauvin was charged and jailed. Have the other bystander cops been charged? I was only aware they were fired.

Anyway, these steps toward justice for the discrete issue of George Floyd's murder are certainly welcome -- but the riots, protests, demonstrations, what-have-you are about larger issues than that.

It's why the protests have spread across the country and heck even overseas.

A spark does not produce an inferno without underlying tinder.

What steps would it take to ensure these demonstrations don't happen again? I don't know, but it starts with listening.

It starts with us not telling everyone they are victims so they don't have a permanent victim complex. The next step is to arm them. Law enforcement gets real polite if every bystander is armed.

Killer Mike put out this eloquent statement on the George Floyd protests today. Though he leans left and supported Bernie Sanders, he is actually pro-gun. I can see why.

But I disagree. The countries that have vigorous gun control (esp. Jana, South Korea) have a lot less gun violence overall and much less police brutality as well.

Because in those countries, police encounters do not take place under the tense backdrop that both sides might be armed, which puts all parties on a hair-trigger.

South Korea lives in a state of fear of north Korea. They also persecute criminals much more harshly than the US. Take a look at Mexico they have "vigorous gun control " and they have really high gun violence and other violence.

Mexico has “gun control” on the books but it’s not actually enforced. Laws that aren’t enforced may as well not exist.

South Korea despite being next to a nuclear-armed rival heavily restricts *civilian* ownership of guns. Though they do have a military draft.

If they can get by with civilian gun control given the threats they face, then so can we.

They enforce it as well as they can in Mexico. You can't count it out. In fact if you look at all the countries that do civilian gun control most of them have serious issues similar to Chicago.
