You do realize the burning of Richmond was the Confederates accidentally burning down their own city during an active war, right? Not a protest or a riot. And, um, as such, one could argue that it wasn't really such a great idea to burn their own city down after all. Sooooo....failing to see how this vindicates the rioters....

Accidentally?

They were mad and started looting the city out of control, because they didn't want their military supplies to fall into the hands of the union soldiers. So, they ended up burning anything they saw not only military supplies out of anger.

Yes, they burned their military stocks on purpose. But they didn't intend to burn the entire city.

I understand where you might think that, but you can't accidentally burn down all brick buildings. You have to set a brick building on fire for it to catch fire. Brick can't be put on fire only the wood infrastructure inside can and when that wood disintegrates the bricks collapses.

They felt stupid afterwards, just like some might feel stupid for burning down local businesses in their own city this week.

You can accidentally burn a brick building down. The roof catches fire and it jumps from building to building. I think we agree that burning down your own city is a pretty stupid thing to do though lol.
