But also be on the alert for socially/mentally abusive men (or women)

-doesn’t like you hanging out with people from the opposite gender(except them)
-says they’ll kill/hurt themselves if you break up with them
-only compliments your looks/body, and nothing else
-wants to know who you’re texting, who you’re hanging out with, what you’re doing every second of the day
-if you mention any of this they say you’re overreacting

AnnoyingBagel, I'm so glad that you've posted that. Yes, there are also abusive women as well. We don't hear them as often because there exists a social expectation that men ought to take punches because they're tougher and stronger.

Also, abuse is not always physical but psychological as well; verbally abusive mates are just as destructive.

Finally, there are other thiings unrelated to dating and marriage that I'd like to post soon. There is what's called "Gas Lighting" which I'll try to study up and post. There are also those who suffer from Sociopathy and Psychopathy.

So i was on Youtube and saw this video. PLEASE read the following warning signs, copied from The National Domestic Violence Hotline (What is Domestic Violence https://www.thehotline.org/is-this-abuse/):

Insult, demean or embarrass you with put-downs?
Control what you do, who you talk to or where you go?
Look at you or act in ways that scare you?
Push you, slap you, choke you or hit you?
Stop you from seeing your friends or family members?
Control the money in the relationship? Take your money or Social Security check, make you ask for money or refuse to give you money?
Make all of the decisions without your input or consideration of your needs?
Tell you that you’re a bad parent or threaten to take away your children?
Prevent you from working or attending school?
Act like the abuse is no big deal, deny the abuse or tell you it’s your own fault?
Destroy your property or threaten to kill your pets?
Intimidate you with guns, knives or other weapons?
Attempt to force you to drop criminal charges?

Signs of abusive behaivor does not come forth immediately; it can surface gradually. From the beginning seem to be small problem, maybe he is a jealous type, perhaps he has a slight problem with his temper

But if that problem of his only increases to where he exhibits the above signs, you're likely in a dangerous relatiionship.

If he truly loves you, he wouldn't hurt you, PERIOD. Please leave him.

And if you are being abused by him, DO NOT hesitate to call the Police.

Excellent point — it is disturbingly easy for anyone of any age to fall into the trap of an abusive relationship.

It starts with charm and kindness and then eventually they make you steadily more dependent on you, isolate you from friends and activities you love, and turn the screws.

It doesn’t happen all at once, otherwise you never would have dated them in the first place.

Stand up for what you love, recognize the warning signs, and get out before it’s too late.
