Thonks | Now that I think about it, why is there even a downvote button? Before you go answer right away with something, read the rest of this. Downvotes are really only used if someone disagrees with a meme, like political stuff, which using the downvote button for mad liberals is just stupid. And it can also be used if someone finds a meme offensive or if it breaks the TOS, but you can just use the flagging option, which will show the image to stream MOD's and it can be taken down and then it is resolved easier and it is gone rather than just pressing a button and having that mem stay there. I just feel like the point of the downvote button has lost its purpose and I don't think we really need it. After all, this is just a meme site, a place where we should be laughing, so why do we even need to downvote? Why is there even a leaderboard? Incomplete list of why I downvote:
- immaturity
- begging for upvotes
- egotism
- spelling and grammar errors
- low effort
- disrespect

These are subjective though, so I don't take down images and comments due to them, I just put in my opinion by downvoting.

Downvotes affect the ranking algorithm and help surface content that users prefer.

I don't have an opinion about the button but I do think that you should check out The_Think_Tank stream and ask this question there also as the people there will spend a good amount of time thinking this over and giving their opinion.

The downvote button's pretty harmless. It gives you a small sense of satisfaction (and a single ImgFlip point, I believe) to hit it if you see something you don't like, but it doesn't really hurt anyone else.

I think the way it functions currently is darn near perfect.
