I don’t think there’s any one way to know you’ve won the argument, but when someone resorts to personal attacks, that’s the best indicator you won.

Depends on the situation. If it's just a stupid argument, like the classic "who does it belong to?" (sorry, I got a sister lol) then the winner is the person who kinda ends it. But if it's like making a decision, the winner is the person who's idea is what gets decided on.

Basically

A genuine debate is about exchanging information with the other party in good faith and searching for the truth wherever it leads.

Emotional investment in the outcome of a debate is a sign of immaturity.

The only beneficial outcome is when knowledge is successfully exchanged and we get a little closer to grasping reality.

When the other person either has nothing else to say, keeps repeating what they already said once your already refuted it, or when they change the conversation. When they do that, say I win. Drives them crazy
