While I cannot speak for all liberals, I personally think that everything shouldn’t be micromanaged by the government. Unless something harms others or puts others at risk, I really don’t care what people do. The problem is when people start to hurt others. If you want to own a gun that is your right, however you should be required to know how to use that gun in a way that does not harm others. If you go out in a pandemic, even if you are healthy you could still spread those germs to others who would not do so well.

What I meant by putting people at risk is that it puts people at a significant risk that is not outweighed by the benefits to society. Take driving as an example. While driving does indeed cause risk, the ability to drive and it’s benefits to society outweighs the risks as long as individuals are properly aware as to how they should drive. The risks posed to society have to be greater than the benefits of any given thing for me to believe that thing should be banned. My apologies for not wording things correctly.

While I agree that government officials are often self serving (on both sides) I mean that if statistically there is a very high chance of something causing harm to others it should not be allowed. Unfortunately our government as it is (on either side) cannot be trusted to do much more than theatrics and screaming at each other. If our government could change we could make policies based on facts and discuss things rationally, but it does not appear that that will ever happen. That’s why I think the government shouldn’t have too much power and should have to have facts to back up laws they make.

The population has grown by over 6 billion people in one human lifetime, micromanagement is the norm because people can't get along. When you have so many people living in close proximity to each other, governance is the only option.

Now, as for me, I don't personally think that Congress either wants to, or is actually capable of, micromanaging every aspect of existence. But then again, I don't think Congress is the "Left," either.

But according to your own logic, if modern American government is the Left, then is this not actual footage of the concept that it is, in fact, possible to "micromanage every aspect of existence?"

These types of charts are necessarily subjective. This one was made a couple years ago, and I don't agree with every data point. Hugo Chavez's dot should be farther to the top-left in light of Venezuela's descent into chaos. Donald Trump should be bumped up the authoritarian axis due to the GOP's capitulation in impeachment and his blatant retaliation against impeachment witnesses.
