So You prefer lots of dead people and overfilled hospitals?

Of course not... and since that would not be the result of undoing the damage done by the Lockdowns you don't have to worry about that at all.

You just need to reopen the less affected areas.

No more dead than a upper range flu season and some hospitals get overrun every flu season. Do a simple google search.

Smoking kills 7 million....every year....why not ban smoking and shut down production?
Vehicular accidents result in deaths....why not shut down all transporting until we find a way to make it absolutely safe?
Medical errors a major cause of deaths....why not shut all medical facilities down indefinitely until this is figured out?

It's way too late to do that. Even if you don't think you are carrying the virus, you still could be. Not everyone with it is affected. That's why it spread so quickly.

OMG. I was being facetious. How dumb can you get?

No shit Sherlock, it's completely beside the point. Those millions of people die every year whether or not it's a virus. So they are obviously much more deadly than that virus. Are you saying less should be done for things which in reality kill far more people every single year?

You are saying that because you are a lunkhead so obsessed with being a contrarian that you can't see the obvious analogy of "shutting down" other causes of death until a "cure" is found.

If your life was at stake because a virus was spreading worldwide, would you want others to quarantined to save millions of lives, or would you just accept that you are probably not going to survive being out side with other people?
0 ups, 5y
Why would my life be at stake because of a virus? What nonsense is this? I've been encountering viruses worldwide my entire life. So have you. So has everyone else. And yes I've gotten sick, sometimes bad for 2 weeks, and so have hundreds of millions of others. Get over it.

if you're saying quarantining isn't thinking critically, I don't know what is. Do you think all of these doctors and other heros out there are working their asses off for just a little virus no worse than the flu? Do you think the government and about every radio station, news channel, and doctor is telling us to social distance for something that is just a "little virus"?

Yeah, but it's impossible to know whether you have it or not unless you get tested. Just because you don't have symptoms doesn't mean you don't have it.

We cant know for sure that you're innocent, so you're sentenced to house arrest.

No just stay home most of the time. Don't gather in large groups, and social distance. That all you have to do.

That's all we SHOULD have to do. But you're only allowed out of the house if it's "essential". The police have the "discretion" to decide whether or not your activity is "essential" and give you an exorbitant fine if they decide it's not. I have a friend who was ticketed for smoking marijuana (legal in CA...AND he had a med card) on HIS OWN front porch. And you can't contest these unlawful tickets (due process) because the courts are closed except for "essential" activity. (Which would be criminal trials, and of course, collecting money from illegal tickets, but they aren't open to let you contest them)

That could be said of anything... something new could come at any moment. Who knows... you manage risk vs. rewards and that was not done here. Mega failure and we need to reopen everything immediately.

Maybe not everything. Social distancing (not the same as house arrest) isn't possible in some venues, like Disneyland (unless they start enforcing occupancy limits, which isn't a bad idea). But for that to happen, some businesses are going to have to accept lower profit margins (still better than no profit) and allow employees to be "rude" (firm and to the point) with unreasonable customers.

Don't think so at all... Facts show this is shaping up as less than a flu. The only precautions should be the sick and elderly, nursing homes, etc... It's estimated that back in March over 7,000,000 in the USA already had it, making the death rate around 0.1%. Some will get it, but some are getting it now. Removing social distancing nonsense, which most are ignoring anyway especially in stores, will allow herd immunity to build up more rapidly and be ultimately better in the long run. Bubble wrap solutions do not work.

Folks need to stop comparing to 1918 horrors and look are a more realistic comparison.

So what. It's just a coronavirus. No data shows it's any more dangerous than the common flu. Impossible to avoid contact with it. That's why we have immune systems. Hiding indoors is futile. You will inevitably get exposed to it, at least once a year. Vast majority have zero or few symptoms and are good for the year.

Nope. Quarantining was knee-jerk reactionary nonsense. Critical thinking means considering all the possibilities, outcomes, etc of a decision. This was not done here at all in favor of a CDC "wet dream" "if you could do anything what would you do" handling of the situation. Not a practical solution by any stretch of the imagination...
