The Nordic model may work well in Scandinavia, but I have yet to see any kind of plan to scale it up to work in a country the size of America. You have to realize, these are small, small countries. We have many states with a greater population than, for instance, Norway.
And the taxes... I think even the snowflakes would be shocked at how much tax has to be paid. They have a huge VAT (not sure of the rate, and too much in snowflake mode to put any effort into checking.) And just try buying a car there. Ouch! Especially one that goes fast and looks good, which is a fondness many Americans have. Sure, we like Tesla's, and the Nissan Leaf (gaaccckkk!) but we also like Corvettes, Challengers, Mustangs, etc.
There's also a huge employer tax. Using an easy to explain round amount in US dollars as an example, let's say you make $50K per year. The employee pays 50%, and the employer pays 60%. So the govt gets $55K based on your $50K salary. THAT is a tax plan that makes politicians melt with anticipation.
And the last of the easy points to make about why the Nordic model won't work in the US is that all health care workers would, by necessity, become govt employees. (and not just health care workers...) That means putting limits on income would be necessary to keep costs under control. Limiting how much a person can make is pretty un-American (unless you're in a union...)
One advantage these countries have over the US is their leaders do not spend money like drunken sailors on shore leave. They seem to spend money responsibly, although Norway is sitting on about $1 trillion in oil money, which doesn't hurt... sort of ironic for a country that is banning fossil fuels. Anyway, you know dayum well that increasing the US govt's revenue based on the Nordic tax schemes would give our politicians so much money that their eyes would bulge out and their brains would go further into deep freeze. It's a recipe for disaster.
