It might be the lack of/imperfection of testing. There might be a lot more people with the virus who haven't died than we know of.

Maybe.

The fatality rate is lower because of all the cases that are unreported. However, that doesn't mean that it isn't serious, and it's a lot higher than flu.

yes, absolutely. There is are tons of reasons it is dangerous. But when a meme says "do the math", and that math isn't accurate, I have to cringe a bit. This thing as already been too politicized.

25,336 (deaths) divided by 558,502 total cases = .045336421 (4.5%)

Right, your arithmetic is fine, but like I said, it doesn't take into account unreported cases. Because many cases are mild and unreported, the actual number is lower. Don't get me wrong, I support self-isolating, stay at home orders and not ending it too early, and doing everything we can possibly do. I just like accurate numbers. Even at a lower estimated fatality rate and a population of 350 million in the US, the numbers are very scary indeed.

Just the US, as of right now. (3/29, 4:47pm GMT)- 1.7% fatality rate. This number is probably actually lower than true given the lack of testing of those sick and who have already died unknowingly from COVID.
