It's funny, but Scandinavian countries touted by liberals all have restrictive migration policies and a point based system. So does Australia. And we are constantly how great and happy these countries are.

False equivalence.

Incorrect. Our greatest advances in science and engineering came after mass migrations due to war in Europe. It's an investment in intellectual capital.

Incorrect. Both industrial revolutions began before WW1. Unskilled labor pouring over the border unchecked and unaccounted for is hardly an investment in "intellectual capital" (hearty laughter).

Take a look at the periodic table and nuclear advancement. (I think you meant fool-hearty laughter.) I don't have time to teach you basic facts so... https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/voices/why-has-america-been-such-a-magnet-for-immigrant-scientists/

Imbecile. There was no "mass migration" from Europe to America post-world war. In fact it was restricted after WW1. Unless you are talking about Operation Paperclip, which was a selective operation to bring in actual (nazi) scientists, it's ridiculous to think mass entry of common people would spark major advancements. Two industrial revolutions trump some progress in chemistry and nuclear science.

Maybe I shouldn't have said "mass" migration because it gave you a chance to become pedantic. Before WWI people came in droves, of course it slowed during conflict. To your point though, I was narrow in my consideration as I was only thinking of the scientific success* in American immigration and didn't pause to consider the missed opportunities and deaths for those we were too racist to assist in fleeing Europe during the build-up to WWII. I should have given more pause to the deaths and lost intellectual contributions.

Your pic above: Whoa, your racism is blatantly showing. You know, with some opportunity, any one of those people could be the next great scientist... I wonder how much further ahead in progress we'd be if more people understood this.

My thinking was along these lines *https://physicstoday.scitation.org/do/10.1063/PT.6.4.20180926a/full/

I could accept what you say here if not for the title you gave your meme. Without that it's perfectly fine, with it, it becomes total nonsense. By mentioning "illegal border crossings" everyone knows exactly what you are talking about, and your ridiculous comment that such mass migration would result in scientific progress is rightly ridiculed, and in no way makes my meme racist, just because it happens to be referring to exactly what YOU were talking about.

Who gives a crap what you can "accept?" And declaring your racist picture and what it is clearly implying not racist doesn't make the statement true. It is racist. Go get your torch, polo, and khaki pants and find a rally.

You are the one citing a handful of Nazi German scientists being brought to America as heralding US scientific progress, yet crying wahh wahh wahh racist. What a cop out. Nice try dodging your failed argument. Science and freedom. What a fraud.

I was highlighting those fleeing Nazi Germany. I do not have time to do all of your research. My goodness what a psuedo-intellectual. Here's another quick list - https://www.startalkradio.net/20-immigrants-refugee-scientists-who-made-america-greater-part-1/

Yeah that still has ZERO to do with illegal immigration from the southern US border, which is what you clearly referenced in your title.

Your last comment suggests there isn't intellectual capital coming across the southern border. That's the most inherently racist thing you could have said. While it's true many of the quick, famous examples of discoveries fueled by immigration around the WW's are going to be from people of Euro descent; that's because those people were fleeing Europe. I am not going to sit here and write you a research paper. Go to the Googlewebs yourself if you want to learn about Latin American inventions, innovation, etc.

But it goes beyond that as there are plenty of discoveries from those Latin Americans that did not come here, again showing there is intellectual capital and we should want that capital here. (see Yellow fever & mosquitoes for one)

In addition, the backstory is different. There is quite a bit of a head start in formal education and opportunity in Europe over Latin America. That does not mean people from Latin America aren't as smart or innovative or are somehow inferior as you are clearly inferring. Why would we not what to give people the opportunity to fulfill their potential? They are humans, with minds, more so than you I believe. Don't bother responding. I'm done with you and your simplistic, nationalistic, and dangerous thinking. I have a life and not the time for a dead end as your position is intellectually terminal and there is no medicine of logic for it.

Word salad to avoid resolving the inherent flaw in your argument, with a layer of flimsy accusations of racism on top. Yada yada yada, calronmoonflower (who I've had massive disagreement with elsewhere) perfectly summed it up below.

Word salad? You come across like a whole salad bar. If you guys want to play that card (the one in his pic) then we need to agree on a time frame post US destabilization of a said country, say, idk, if we hand a hand in your gov turmoil in the last 50yrs maybe, we don't bitch about desperate people coming from there to here.

What "guys" are you talking about? Post US destabilization time frame? Now THERE'S a word salad. A hand in "your" gov turmoil? I'm a white American, you racist asshole. All the while trying to play a fake racist card, you end up spouting racism of people south of the border bitching about not getting free entry. Massive hypocrisy exposed! What happened to those innovative Latin Americans you were touting when it served your weak TDS meme? Pathetic!

You guys = common ideological argument;
Your = mostly Republican destabilization efforts: Panama (Reagan), El Salvador (Reagan), Argentina 1976 (Ford), Guatemala (Started w/ Eisenhower, covered many presidents), Uruguay (Nixon) and on and on...;
Did they have free water bottles at the Charlottesville rally, how did you light your torch anyway, lighter or matches? So many questions;
And that entry is never Free, not all pain or strain is financial.

I have explained the innovative Latin Americans position and why we've missed out on them here. You seem to think they don't exist. They do. That they are not capable. They are. Your little pic of children scrambling across the border made your position abundantly clear.

You go do some research. I'm not your errand boy you lazy pr*ck. Here are 6 that made it here to get you started (5 seconds to google)... I wonder how many minds we lost because of people like you.
Luis Walter Alvarez, Nobel Prize-winning physicist
Franklin Chang-Dìaz, astronaut
Mario Molina, Nobel Prize-winning chemist
Carlos Noriega, astronaut
Ellen Ochoa, astronaut
Severo Ochoa, Nobel Prize-winning biochemist

I'm done. You are an ideologue incapable of compassion or humanity. You have no vision and no understanding of investment. You are the most fragile soy-boi I've bumped into in a while. I cannot imagine how unloved you must be, and have been, to be the way you are... Spouting racism and when you are called on it, you're now a victim... What an abomination you are.
0 ups, 5y
Yeah let's see how many "innovative scientists" will enter the US under your "open borders" plan. You are living in the past. Any fool knows the biggest growing US industry is high-tech IT, and many of the people in it have eastern ethnicity, but they were the product of upper-class families going to the best universities. The most successful ethnicity in the US is Asian-Americans right now. You are so far off you don't have a clue. Get you head out of your ass. This is not the age of mass migration of blue collar workers and manual laborers coming into Ellis Island. America has already been built up by slaves and immigrants. Now it's all high tech. Your basic argument that mass or random immigration will make America more great is inherently flawed. No weak attempts at crying "racist" is going to change that.

Since when do Trump fans care about illegal crossings actually going down? That happened under Obama as well but they still want the wall and they still refuse legal immigration reform.
