you can find a job in the global economy, especially if you can speak french, spanish, or chinese
however, i would advise you not to find a job in a non-developed or democratic country because of the lack of job security, plus the fact that some corrupt officials can take your salary

Actual Advice Mallard Meme | IF YOU WANT TO LIVE IN, WORK IN OR VISIT COUNTRIES WHERE THAT LANGUAGE IS SPOKEN YOU NEED TO LEARN THAT LANGUAGE. | image tagged in memes, actual advice mallard | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I have an example right in my own family. My brother has spent his career living and working in South America, and married a Peruvian woman, so learning Spanish was a necessity.

When it comes to "visit"... I would have to be able to speak Dutch, English, German, Italian, Catalan (and/or Spanish), French, Gaelic, Greek, Czech and Slovenian.... I hope you don't mind that goes a bit too far for me 😁Working and living, is indeed another story. Now if a woman comes to my country out of love for me, I think I'll learn her native language (unless I already know it) anyway.... It could be handy to have a conversation with my in-laws in their native language.

Well....I guess that theres no language barrier, I guess? I have a friend in Japan, he knows exactly 0 words in English. And...he improved my quality of life just by existing. If I never learned Japanese, I wouldnt have met him.

Don’t let on for the first few hours that you speak someone else’s language... & find out what they really think of you 😉.

Peace.

Yeah, somebody I once knew worked as a waiter in a restaurant somewhere in Scotland in a place where hardly any tourists come. Some Dutch people who only came there as there were traveling and needed a quick meal came over there, and kept on insulting the waiter in Dutch, completely ignorant of the fact he was in fact Dutch too, so he could understand every insult they uttered. He pretended to "play dumb" and kept on speaking English, until they were finished eating. Then he placed the bill on the table and said "Alstublieft, de rekening" (Here you go, the bill) in perfectly unaccented Dutch, and he told me that it was horribly quiet in the restaurant from that moment.

Of course it can also work the other way around ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3or_ioKqzs ). Although the translations of the Italian text are in Dutch, I can tell you those waiters were actually very rude in their way of saying the girls were pretty and the guys were ugly, and then a Dutch guy speaking to them in fluent Italian (he was only asking to take their orders, just to make clear he does know Italian)... The commercial is for a company teaching you anything and everything, including foreign languages... ;)

It can be a curse as well as a blessing actually. I am quite happy that I close to fluent in English, since most people of the world are able to speak and understand that language right now. Being bilingual can (like WhiteRabid says) also help in learning more languages are at least broaden your lingual horizon making understanding other languages easier. It may sound silly, but it helped when I was trying to understand Swedish, and discovering that in stead of putting the word "the" before a noun, in Swedish they make that effect by suffixing a word with "en". So the famous song title "Boten Anna" basically translates to "The bot Anna". This is because English grammar does differ from my first language's grammar (Dutch) on many fronts, so being bilingual does help me to understand there are multiple grammar rules and language flows. And yet, since Dutch is a terrible language to learn (I warn ya) we always have a good time when foreigners try to speak Dutch... Videos on YouTube in which people try, are bound to attract loads of Dutch who are amused by them (although we respect all attempts, as we know how hard our language is).

There are downsides though. My autocorrect on my cell phone tries to correct all Dutch words I type to English words with the closest spelling. And that often leads to very funny outcomes. One non-sexual message was turned by the corrector into a pretty vulgar thing which I didn't dare to send (as the recipient was of the opposite sex, and I was sure I'd offend her if I did), and mostly it does send shit beyond comprehension. Now I can set different languages in Android, no problem, but it's quite some hassle and as I have to switch languages in a split second, it's not an option. My Dutch fellows know that if I text or app them with my cell phone I'll just use English in stead to prevent trouble. On my desktop I can type in Dutch without words being auto-corrected, but when I write in Dutch 99% of the text is deemed incorrect (how obvious), and switching languages there is also not very handy....

So it has it pros, but also its cons....

That's exactly why I just turn off auto-correct completely... It already messes up what you write within one language. But if you go back and forth between languages as much as I do it's unbearable...

The reason I leave it on on my cell phone is because I can't type on those things.... I only use desktop computers whenever possible. The auto-correct at least allows me to type at all. And indeed having to switch a lot between languages can make auto-correct a real pain.

Yeah, I hate touchscreens too... One day there'll be a good phone with an actual keyboard again (and I'm not talking about Blackberry) and I'll have enough money to get one. But until then I'll just keep correcting myself... 🤷

Well, keyboards using bluetooth can be used on both tablets and cellphones... Unfortunately having to carry a keyboard around is not very handy, now is it? But, I guess it's better than those **BLEEP**-ing touchscreens. Of course my message to the inventor of the smartphone is... "Ich finde dich Scheiße! So richtig Scheiße!" (Don't ask me why I know that song)

Yeah, I have a Bluetooth keyboard but it's really inconvenient to have to hold two seperate things...

I love that song! 😂 It fits so many situations. 😁

Hmmm.... I just read the lyrics (and cheated a tiny bit with Google translate as I could not catch all of that), and I wonder... Why did some German girls, sing/rap a song about the Dutch politician Thiery Beaudet? 😜😁🤣

Once you've learned a second language it is much easier to learn a third or even more. It basically gets easier every time.

That explains why I try learning French (my 5th language) and it was easy.

I know, but since the more languages you know, more easier it is to learn a language. But yeah, I understand the 1st line because I know French, but the 2nd line, I'm working on that language.

Well, the 2nd line happens to be my 1st language, so I can help you on that one ;)

What's your 1st language? My 1st/native language is English (because I'm born in the U.S.), then my 2nd language is German, my 3rd Spanish, my 4th Italian, and then 5th is French.

Useful for a lot of things. For example, my friend once overheard two workers speaking Spanish saying how they were going to do something bad . My Spanish speaking friends heard, and told someone. Im not sure if it was just a passing comment, or a real threat but I am glad my friends heard them.
