Yeah I have noticed that too, but I think they didn't use him solely to model the character after. If anything I'd say the culture was mimicked more than just saying the one guy. All the symbols (fish hook included) are seen in many different aspects of their people. I thought they did a good job with the movie and many of the cultural references, I actually read an article about how far they went to make sure everything was accurate. However, can't please everyone...as I understand there are many within that community that disapproved of the movie too.
