Sorry, but it kills competition and that ensures quality product at a reasonable price in a free market of producers and consumers.
Government would be using force to ensure compliance with the subsidy via taxes. Some would get it free for awhile, many pay something, some would have to pay many times the value to cover the discounts.
Once the burger economy is ruined, money will run out and it will come crashing down. Then no one will have anything. The advantage of some people getting something is temporarily tenuous at best. It’s not self sustaining.
