My uncle got put in an electric chair. Before they did it I asked him to tell us how it felt. But he couldn’t, he was too shocked.

I wonder if the sphincter muscles contract or relax

What's your favorite potato?

Yukon gold, definitely.

Mine's Sieglinde potatos. My grandparents used to grow them on their farm.

Interesting, I've never heard of them but looked it up real quick. It's another gold/yellow variety so I'm sure I'd like them. Also, it's a German breed and the Germans know how to make good potatoes so hey, all the better!

Another favorite of mine are the Peruvian purple ones. Deep purple/blue skin and flesh, and they roast really well.

You just have to wash them, and the skin half comes off but it's hardly noticeable anyway. Tender as anything, we use to call them butter potatoes as they were so rich and yellow yet you didn't even need butter.

My mind snapped when I saw all the various potatoes and their varied colors from around the world.

Sounds delicious...

This is an odd question and I don't really understand it so um
5 ups, 4y
It's ok. It's a special interest question that I threw out there in case anyone was curious about our electric world we live in. Electricity is everywhere in common applications that most people take for granted, figured some folks might be interested to know more.

Why do I get all tingly when I stick a fork into the socket? :)
6 ups, 4y,
1 reply
It's the sensation of all your body's natural electric synapses being interrupted by an overwhelming electric force, causing your muscles to violently expand and contract at 60hz speed, which induces pain and otherwise discomforting sensations. Also, the voltage and current are probably burning and destroying your tissue at near light speed, which is pretty dope except that it hurts like hell.

Moral of the story, dont stick forks into sockets or you're gonna have a bad time ;)

If electricity flows from negative to positive, why are there 3 wires in an outlet?
6 ups, 4y
The third wire in a standard receptacle is an equipment ground. Basically it's a safety precaution that keeps you from being electrocuted if there is ever a fault. Great question!

Why does electricity buzz? Is it because of the mega hertz
5 ups, 4y,
2 replies
Hertz, yes but not megahertz. Our power worldwide is distributed at 50 or 60 Hz, which is very low in the scheme of things. Megahertz are used in wireless transmissions. What you are hearing can be any number of things, but mostly it will be transformers that buzz. Within transformers you have very intense magnetic fields that either increase or decrease voltage. Those fields physically manipulate the coils of wire inside at a rate of 60 cycles per second, and it creates the buzz. Make sense?

Through work I found out a while back there is still 25Hz power being generated and used in the USA today.

Amtrak's Northeast Corridor traction power system between Washington DC and NYC also SEPTA's traction power system around Philadelphia.

Yeah the rail guys get to do pretty much whatever they want, it's their system and nobody else will ever end up tying into it so if they want 25Hz, what the hey? Interesting fact though, thanks for sharing!

Also, mom said stop using the hair dryer in the tub. Can you tell me why?
4 ups, 4y
Answer 1: You were the remote control so they didn't need one.

Answer 2: You're alive to ask the question so she was right to tell you not to. Actually these days they have GFI protection built into every hairdryer cord made (the bulky black box plug with 2 buttons on it) so you're actually not that bad off compared to 30 years ago, but I still wouldn't try it...

Making toast in the tub is also frowned upon.

Do you think we'll quit muckin' around with fossil fuels in our lifetime & develop the
free energy tech that Tesla invented?
4 ups, 4y,
1 reply
As long as there is money to be made in fossil fuels, I doubt it and I dont see that happening for a long time. Any sort of free/super efficient energy like Tesla's concept or the Ogle carburetor will be suppressed. If there isnt any money to be made, industry wont support it. It's sad, but I really think that's true. It will take a major act of philanthropy to get it developed and implemented, but dang if we ever get there it will be amazing what all we will accomplish in a short amount of time. I'd love to see it happen.
4 ups, 4y,
1 reply
Yeah, I understand about the industry. That's why Tesla was shut down in the first place. I guess I should have asked if you think enough people will wake up to the truth about the industry, to cause the shift to another source of energy.
4 ups, 4y,

That would be nice, I'd love to see it happen. Even if it were just a demonstration to show how it can be done would be awesome to see, and it would probably inspire a bunch of people to push for it. The last time I saw anything like this (can't remember who did it, sorry) it was a coffee shop that was experimenting with wireless device charging, so basically they had these devices installed and as long as you were within 10 or 15 feet of them your phone or ipad or whatever would automatically charge wirelessly. It got shut down pretty quickly though because someone started the whole "it's gonna give everyone cancer from radiation" thing...I see fright tactics being used like that to counter any attempts to use it. People don't realize that the air is already full of energy and radiation, we're exposed to it every day. Tesla's technology only sought to use it as it already exists, there was no danger to the public beyond what people already expose themselves to on a daily basis.

I hope to see it someday too. The phones & towers themselves create a pretty toxic environment for the human nervous system.

Can or can't? Wouldn't surprise me if you can't use both, hotels notoriously only give you one circuit to run all that stuff...
