This is not how America is supposed to work!

50% of americans make less than 30 grand a year.
a little over 70% cannot withstand a $500 emergency.

now this is not an easy metric to discuss on a meme site,for a multitude of reasons.
but I kindly suggest caution in buying into the media fed narratives.
both for and against.

Do you have data to back that up? I'd be interested to see how that number was decided or how recent the study was. You also have to factor in where people are living. For example, you can live fairly comfortably on 30k in places like the Midwest, however it's next to impossible in California or New York City. Add kids into the mix and you're pretty much going to be homeless. I definitely believe the 70% number, but one must ask how much is because they don't have enough income and how much is because they don't know how to save money.

that fact that you are open,curious and willing to acknowledge that there are a multitude of ways to not only examine a situation,but that it can be manipulated to reveal whatever we wish,if we were so inclined.

to be honest,i don't comment with a google page open.i fire away from memory.
it may have been Thomas picketty,or mark blythe.
I think it may have even come from Thomas franks "listen liberal".
(which is such a great book if you want to "own the libs").
might have come from the economist,or the rebel economist.
I really cannot recall mate.

all I know is that those two factors really surprised me.
anyways,i realize that was zero help...so take my numbers with a grain of salt.
