“Legal notice” announced through Twitter lol.

What a tremendously half-hearted attempt to “comply” with the War Powers Act. It’s basically a middle finger to that entire Act.

This could be another count for impeachment depending on what happens next.

The War Powers Act requires Congress be notified after a military deployment, not before. I think that tweet was more about putting the swamp on notice and giving them the finger. He's sending them a message and doing a bit of posturing at the same time.

Oh, and speaking of the peachmint, how's that going? haven't heard much about it lately... has the Senate started the trial yet? It's important that he's removed as soon as possible according to Nancy... she needs to send those Articles to the Senate and get things underway!

It’s a violation of the letter and certainly the spirit of the War Powers Act.

The U.S. electorate does not want a war with Iran and if he goes much further the voters will send him a message.

Congress took a break on impeachment for the holidays, basically. Last I heard there have been no commitments from McConnell about what a Senate trial would look like.

Trump has never mentioned war. He is talking about a military response to terrorist attacks. The mainstream media are the ones trying to scare everyone by screaming about WW3.

BTW Congress has no say as to how the Senate will conduct a trial. If Nancy thinks withholding the Articles will give her some kind of leverage then she's drunker than she looks.

Pro-top: You can wage an entire war without once using the magic word “war”!

Trump actually did say recently, both before and after the assassination I believe, that he did not want a “war” with Iran, but as usual his words and actions are terribly misaligned or he simply has not thought through the potential consequences of killing a country’s #2 leader and top general. Either theory is plausible based on what we know about Trump.

Pelosi can say whatever she wants to say about impeachment and McConnell is free to listen or not. Most likely: not.

I get what you are saying. honestly I think we are already at war, and have been for quite some time... its just not being called war. But getting back to the situation with the fine General who recently left us... would you rather just let him continue committing terrorism and murder?

Cut the head off the snake and the tinderbox will burn out. That is what has been wrong with these conflicts in the middle east, we have played tit for tat too long. Time for some serious targets to be taken out. Soleimani's death hurt them bad. Hit them high, then hit them as they try to grow. That is how you win.

This isn't a snake.... it's a hydra.
If we win any of the wars in the Middle East, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

"Winning the wars" misses the entire point. Our policy isn't to "win" wars, but to keep these leaders in check. Winning a war involves moving in and occupying and rebuilding. That doesn't seem to work, which is why it wasn't done prior to Bush's blunder. It's easier to blast them into submission every few years and prop up leaders in the area to keep others in their place. Now that we're almost 100% independent with our oil needs, that whole reason for being there in the first place seems more and more moot, for the US, not so much for Europe, who is still dependent on their enemies for their energy needs.

Well.. considering the bunch of missiles they just launched at our forces, I'm not sure if the leaders of Iran are in check.

I also question the strategy (long term) of bombing countries who we're not actually at war with.

Missiles fired to save face. They had to do something. Blowing up sand and broadcasting mass casualties to their followers will suffice.

I'm not really a fan of long drawn out "conflicts" either. But, Iran thinks it's the new caliphate and that ideology can't be ignored. It was once and we got ISIS.

oh, so you think they are so grand they cannot fall? Saddam smirked at the U.S. Where is he now? The mistake in Iraq was to turn leadership back over. They are not as grand as you think. Their power comes from fear. People like you who give into their fear tactics.

I think the "war on terror" is similar to the "war on drugs". You can kill or incarcerate 1 kingpin or 1,000.. There will be another one to take their place. "The mistake in Iraq was turning leadership back over".. Exactly. We have to continually be fighting or at least "occupying" their country for it to work. Is that really winning??
