Actually it doesn't. It just means the 'authority' figure may be wrong. You should immediately follow up with your own facts.

Not all authorities are created equal, of course — but if you’re going to invoke this, then you need to be prepared with a good argument for why the data being cited is wrong or the source isn’t trustworthy

You cannot invoke “Appeal to Authority!” as a get-out-of-jail-free card for exclude your opponent from introducing outside evidence

Too many on this site try to pretend as if debates are hermetically sealed logic bubbles which do not permit the intrusion of outside evidence
