I didn't "ignore" your comment about Chicago, Detroit, and Baltimore. This is what I said:
--"The 'gun bans' you're talking about are pretty toothless given that our society is simply awash in guns.
--"We have more guns in this country than we have people. We would need a far, far more rigorous, and nation-wide, gun ban to truly make an impact. Including assault weapon bans and buybacks."
I also never said the U.S. had the highest murder rate. I said it was higher than its peer rich-world countries. Which my charts show.
I mentioned wealth because it is relevant, too. So is rule of law (which many poorer countries don't have much of).
Guns, wealth, and strength of rule of law, are all factors. There may be more factors neither of us have mentioned yet. Why do people kill? It's a complex subject that may never be fully answered.
But if we really care about saving lives, then we need to work on all of them -- INCLUDING guns and INCLUDING fighting poverty.
