I just don't understand why anyone thinks bigotry or prejudice of any kind is acceptable. It's pure ignorance. If someone wants to express their disagreement with homosexual behavior based on their religion's teachings, then a discussion can be held. But pure homophobia is pathetic at best, and quite honestly, imo stems from the fear of being homosexual. Just my own little armchair psychological opinion there.
I'm originally from Iowa, and the good people of Iowa (in general, of course) will judge him based on his policies, not his personal life. Of course, there will be those who won't consider voting for him because of their religious beliefs. That will not go away for a long, long time.
