But mass shootings aren’t typically stopped by a “good guy with a gun.” They end when the authorities arrive and kill or capture the shooter, or the shooter kills themselves.

so you say, the news rarely reports when a good guy when a gun stops a shooter, because it's not a mass shotting. The good guy with a gun took him out

Reality exists independent of the news sources we read. Logic dictates fewer guns = fewer gun deaths. And studies of comparative murder rates back that up. It’s pretty simple.

Other first-world countries have lower gun deaths. in some cases much lower.

There are more guns in America than every man, woman, and child put together. That’s pretty messed up any way you slice it.

There are good arguments both ways about the finer details of gun laws, but this is the overall problem in a nutshell.
