I think all the actual socialists he threw into concentration camps in the early stages of the holocaust would beg to differ.

Devout members of the Communist party went to gulags in the Soviet Union. Aryans went to the death camps too. I'm not saying he wasn't a sociopath, or a mass murder. My attempt is in part to say talk is cheap, people lie to get into power. Hitler did say he was a socialist, and that contributed to appeal.

The right / left identities get a little blurred, imo, when we're talking about evil people like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, etc. They're all evil dictators. They used whatever was at their disposal to gain and maintain power. I don't see any benefit in attempting to put them into political identity boxes, as the liberals here in the US are so fond of doing when it suits whatever point they're trying to make at any given time.

Hitler centralized the German economy, a tool of social manipulation to control the populace through economics. Imagine how hard it would be to voice politically dissident views in an economy controlled by the government.? That is how things like the Holocaust, the starving of the Urals, massacre of the Kulaks , Chinese democide and the North Korean slave state, or even the Irish potato famine happened. For every life destroyed under these governments how many stood silently by for fear of saying something politically incorrect and being punished. Who is brave enough to bite the hand that feeds them?
