How much did California corruption cost taxpayers...and the high speed rail project has been cancelled.

That's a state, but when it comes to federal, they should have a train that's as good if not better than China or Japan. California is corrupt for sure, but does not change the fact, that the federal government either has to improve our trains or end the monopoly, so the private sector can improve and innovate it.

Why? Americans prefer their cars. You can drive pretty much anywhere in the entire country on a paved road.....for quite some time now.

The existing rail system is designed for freight. Anything high-speed would need an entirely new rail to operate on. With that, you're looking at a lot more land. People aren't generally keen on giving up their land to the feds.
