Coal-Electric

Coal-Electric | IF WE HAD CONVERTED OUR COAL FIRED ELECTRIC PLANTS TO NATURAL GAS FIVE YEARS AGO, WE WOULD HAVE PUT OVER 3-BILLION METRIC TONS LESS OF CO2 INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. Shovelling money into the government isn't gonna solve everything.
It's gonna make it worse.

You might be confused. Public Utilities are almost all privately held corporations. That is why the stock holders, not the taxpayers are most affected by PG&E's bankruptcy.

Eventually solar and wind will produce almost all of our energy, if we can find enough rare earths to make them. But, eventually is not right now. We can reduce our emissions in a major way with the equipment and NG we have today. The irony I note is that "environmentalists," are keeping us from doing things that we know will reduce Earth warming pollution now, because it is not the things they advocate for. That is a fairly immature and ill-informed position for people who claim their conclusions are science based.

it's true about what you say regarding environmentalists preventing solutions against climate change, hence many protesting against building railroads.

I am not anti-nuclear, just pragmatic. And, I am almost alone out there pointing out that we don't have the stash of Rare Earths needed to go totally solar and wind. We need to do what we can to produce whatever clean energy we can. If we can't produce totally clean energy, we need to aim for the cleanest as soon as possible. If logic prevailed, we would be on a major push to convert coal to natural gas and prolong the lives of existing Nuclear Fission plants. If Fusion pans out, we might have our asses saved by applied science. But, I have been wishing for that source to pan out since the 1980s.

If you want an argument, make a different statement.

"The future for energy production is nuclear, and has been for nearly 80 years"

you do realize the flaw in that statement, right? it's like people have been saying "this is the future of energy" for 8 decades.

Food for thought

Cost has put nuclear out of the game. Admittedly, the cost is adversely affected by hyper-regulation, but that ship has sailed.
