Look I had an abusive spouse. I wish had reported her, I didn't, but I should have because it would have made my life and the life of my child who I have full custody of much safer and better. But there is no good excuse to violate the people's right to self-defense without a trial and a determination of illegal activity by a legal court preceding. To gift the government the ability to violate theses rights is to invite a police state. This can be seen in history many times. An unarmed populace are subjects, an armed populace are citizens. Why would the government listen to protesters when they know that they have no further recourse. Look at the Warsaw ghettos In WW2, or Hong Kong now. Look how Tibet was steamrolled by China.
