What if I stole the most sacred item I could find from a mosque or Temple and performed a ritual who's sole purpose was to desecrate that item? If I took something that was special to you say a family heirloom or gift you received from someone or perhaps a photo of you or your family member or perhaps an LGBTQ flag and publicly tried to destroy it in the most offensive way possible in order to humiliate and emotionally harm you or a particular group of people would you still say that is freedom of religion or speech?

Agreed. There's freedom to speak your mind but it should be governed and moderated by common sense, decency and decorum as well as respect for others. That is why I can't go into a movie theater and loudly shout through the whole movie, I would be asked to leave, why an employer would be quickly fired if he verbally abused and berated his employees every day, why I can't go into church as a pastor and start hurling obscenities at the congregation. Why I myself don't gossip, don't speak unkindly toward or about those I disagree with.

I wouldn't expect an atheist to understand why attending something like this would be akin to spitting in the face of Catholics.

Who's "we"? I'm guessing you're claiming an atheist background as well? Believing in God doesn't make one a slave any more than loving your family, following the rules of the house, doing things out of love and concern for the wellbeing of your parents, children and siblings makes you a slave. Actually following the commandments is more freeing than having no limitations and allows one to use their gifts and talents for the good of everyone not just oneself.
