Kaepernick's birth mother gave him up for adoption. He was adopted by a white couple named Rick and Teresa Kaepernick. The couple who had two older children, son Kyle and daughter Devon. The Kaepernicks decided to adopt a boy after losing two other sons to heart defects and adopted one with a brain defect instead. He was raised in a privileged white family and hasn't got a clue what oppression is all about.
