Carlin? You dislike George Freaking Carlin? Yes, I think you are. He was one of the greatest comedians of all time. He hated everything and everyone. I've had this discussion quite a few times, and yeah, seems I'm pretty alone.

Mainly it was that waaaaaaaaay long Baseball vs Football bit that he did word for word on every single appearance he made from the late 70s till death that killed him for me. Plus he was a little too smug for my tastes. Understandable perhaps for a comedian ridiculing ridiculous things, but just a wee too much for me.

Funny you should mention that bit, I just heard it the other day. Was in the mood for comedy and that one came up. It's not necessarily one of his best. But he did have a certain way of dissecting things that I truly enjoyed. I loved his bit about Airplanes. "Get on the plane? No thank you. I'll get in the plane. There's less wind in there!"

I honestly can see him being an acquired taste. I've always been a huge fan.

It was an interesting comparison & analysis, just that that's the only thing I saw him do on the talk show circuit for decades. I've not caught anything else other than him SNL, so I'm limited in my view.

He had a unique voice in comedy which is what drew me to him. His comedy wasn't so much about what was going on in his life, but in the world and that was rare. It still is. He rarely talked about family. But he had a way of spinning things that I had never seen before.

Perhaps one day I'll get around to giving his albums a listen and open my eyes. Others I've dicussed this with hold him in the highest regard, top of the list.
