What’s your definition of what’s going on in Canada, Finland, Germany, England, Australia or any other modern, westernized nation? Because whatever it is has been labeled socialism by some. And it seems to be working out.

My basic definition of socialism is when the government controls every aspect of an individual's life. I won't speak of current governments since I would need to do proper research before I give my opinion, but I am mainly criticizing Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union since they're the prime examples of what a socialist society looks like.

They are prime examples of fascist and communist societies look like.

These countries are labeled by many as socialist and have the highest quality of life. So....why aren’t we in that list?

Fascism and communism are forms of socialism since they operate under the assumption that the Government controls everything. The reason Stalin did not like Hitler was because he thought Hitler's brand of socialism wasn't oppressive enough to the civilians, and, when comparing different socialist governments, the degree of oppression towards its citizens is the real question to ask. Also, just make sure we're on the same page, how does the survey define "quality of life"? As to why the United States is not on the survey, perhaps you should ask the person who made the survey and not me.

But, in any event, I created the meme as a joke for those who have friends and family members that think there has never been an example of a socialist regime that failed in the past. If you are curious about the history and facts of socialism, I can recommend good books for you to read. If you are just looking to pick a fight (which I doubt, but I'm not leaving it out of the possibility since I do not know who you are in real life and vice versa), then perhaps the conversation should end here before it turns ugly.

I'm willing to discuss topics with people, but I'm not interested in participating in another internet chat room quarrel. I sincerely hope you feel the same way.

there are many facets and degrees of socialism.
even here in the states.
medicare and social security?=socialism.
the bank bailouts of 2008? =socialism

the argument is to what extent a sovereign country will utilize it's resources.here is where the political class weaponizes certain aspects.

but the reality is that most western countries are mixed economies.denmark is a capitalist country with a very strong welfare state.not really a socialist country,but rather a social democracy.

you make a valid point in top-down,state run economies.
but this can also manifest in a corporate dominated country with a weak government.(or in the case of mexico.strong drug cartels and a weak,corrupted government).
it is about who wields the power,and how that power is utilized.

fascism is not easy to pin down.it can manifest in many forms.
