Those look pretty dang tasty, I'd give it a go. Can't go wrong with Krispy Kreme!
Favorite recipe (one of them): Smoked reverse sear ribeye steak
- Get a thick cut ribeye, minimum 16 oz but the bigger the better, should be over an inch thick ideally.
- Season with salt, coarse pepper, and garlic powder and refrigerate for 20 minutes, it should be cold when it goes on the smoker so it takes longer to come up to temperature, and longer cook time means more smoke is absorbed.
- Prep smoker to 250 degrees. I use hickory or apple wood for smoke.
- Smoke the steak for about 20 to 25 minutes (longer if thicker steak) and begin checking internal temperature.
- Prep grill or cast iron skillet for searing with high heat.
- When steak is 10 degrees less than desired done temp, take it off the smoker and transfer directly to grill or skillet. I like med-rare which is 130 degree internal temp, so I pull off at 120 degrees.
- On grill, sear steak for 30 seconds, rotate quarter turn and sear 30 more seconds. Flip and repeat. In skillet, sear each side for one minute.
- Remove from heat and let rest for 10 to 15 minutes, it should be exactly at desired temp.
- Last step, eat steak...smoky, beefy, well balanced goodness.
Recipe hack: need buttermilk and don't have any? Use regular 2% or whole milk, and add a spoonful of vinegar to each cup needed, stir in and let sit for a few minutes. It'll thicken up and is a great substitute for baking if needed, not super recommended for drinking though if you like to drink it.
